Bird Sightings in Florence, Italy

July 1, 2023

Upon arrival in Florence, we spotted most of the common species of the trip right away: Hooded Crows, a Common Blackbird, Italian Sparrows (which are quite similar to our usual House Sparrows and seem to replace them in some locations), Yellow-legged gulls, Feral Pigeons and Rock Doves. Additionally, we spotted a Wood Dove quite early on, along with Magpies and a Purple Heron while in transit to the city. Once we got into the area of the city near the Duomo, we headed for the Botanical Gardens, which are the 4th oldest in Europe. Along with repeats of several of the common species, we spotted another Wood Dove, a European Robin, a Great Tit, a Serin, a Redstart, a Spotted Flycatcher, and a juvenile European Goldfinch.
